Remote CB ModI didn't want to mount a CBwhere I have to look at it. The KJ dash is pretty good looking. My old Icom radio had a remote face mount. It was very convenient. On the CB, the controls are all very simple electronics. |
If you want to, you could remote mount the entire face But it would take over 24 wires. That much extra impedence could adversely affect the performace of the CB. I chose to mount the body under the seat where I can reach under to adjust volume and squelch. The mic cable is a perfect length for the location. I used two pieces of cat-5 cable to remote connect the channel display and select buttons. Since I had 1 pair left over, I added a remote power switch. I did this by cutting the trace on the pc board for the power on section of the power/volume potentiometer. Then I just wired the small toggle switch in series with it. Now volume can be left at a comfortable level and the switch on the dash acts as a master switch. Cost: $40 Wallyworld CB $3 radio shack box (recycled from old project) $2 SPST toggle with spiffy cover | |
The radio is mounted to the bracket that's built into the seat. I used a couple of zip ties to secure it. I have to stretch a bit to hit the squelch adjustment, but it's not too bad. |
