No pressure – compression that is
I’ve been poking around on the project bike as time allows. It’s been surprisingly refreshing to work on the old beast. I used to enjoy working on my cars, but hadn’t wanted to commit to any of those projects in a while.
It turns out that the bike is worse that I thought. It’s down to zero compression on all three cylinders. I reset the cam/crank timing chain hoping to fix the problem. It turns out that the bike has some stuck valves. I’m going to pull the head and assess the state of the block this weekend. I get the feeling that the bike sat for a while with the valves open, so I’m hoping that the job only needs a trip to the machine shop and a some gaskets…

ohh and 1 more thing ..the voltage regulator had 1 red wire, 1 black and 3 white ..the 2 plastic clips that marry together was full of corrosion , so i cut it completely out and hard wired the wires together ..does the 3 white wires make a difference as to which ones they are attatched too ? i would think not ..but who am i to say ? any imformation would be “GREATLY” appriciated . thanks again .

i just got a 1980 xs 850 special it sat for a year or so , but the day i picked it up it was able to start for the next 3 days in my garage. but now nothing …it cranks( using the electrical starter button)and sometimes backfires but no start . and when i try using the kick start i get nothing but an occasional pop from the exhaust . i already know i need a new ignition unit as it works when it wants too by lightly tapping on it …any ideas ? i would love to talk to you over the phone mabe about this ?
