Just a few projects on my list…

23 September, 2008 (20:21) | Uncategorized |

I’ve been taking my version of a vacation from myself, but I’m getting revved up again. Just a few projects on my list: EFI Yamaha Tripple 850. Megasquirt the miata. Balance and build the 1.8L engine for the miata. Create a universal bluetooth console cable. (got some parts, playing with ideas) Write my frickin book [...]

Look ma, I got another Miata…

17 August, 2008 (16:25) | Uncategorized |

I’ve finally returned to the land of the rag top! I picked up this slightly unfornate looking 92 Miata last week. The factory top is decent, but not the window. Luckily, it included a hard top – in 92 they added a rear defroster and light to the hard top. With a mere 132k on [...]

Tooling up my wireless junk

7 August, 2008 (15:23) | Uncategorized |

I’ve been making some major progress on my wireless gear lately. My house is now running enterprise class wireless gear – There’s a Nortel wireless security switch that can be had cheap, thanks to some corporate mergers EOLing the product line earlier than they planned. Meet the Nortel 2270 wireless security switch: This thing uses [...]

DSL is much happier now

31 July, 2008 (15:25) | Uncategorized |

I finally called the telco about my DSL issues. Monday morning I had a tech on my doorstep. (surprising!) He got rid of the ‘half ringer’ that was on the box outside my house and redid the jack inside just to be sure. Then he ended up replacing the modem as well. Once the new [...]

DIY Concrete espresso bar!

5 June, 2008 (16:34) | Uncategorized | 2 comments

I finally took some time to write up my espresso bar build featuring a concrete countertop. It doesn’t cover every detail, but you can get a decent grasp of the process. I built everything, including the cabinet. (I still need to make the drawers…)

No pressure – compression that is

I’ve been poking around on the project bike as time allows. It’s been surprisingly refreshing to work on the old beast. I used to enjoy working on my cars, but hadn’t wanted to commit to any of those projects in a while. It turns out that the bike is worse that I thought. It’s down [...]

New project bike: Yamaha XS 850

28 April, 2008 (05:09) | Uncategorized | 9 comments

Just rolled a new project int my shop today. It’s a 1980 Yamaha XS 850. This is one of the few three cylinder bikes of it time, and is actually an interesting find. Three cylinder, air cooled 850cc engine, three hitachi carbs (oddity), overhead cams. 79hp from the factory! It’ll either get some serious love [...]

Progress and the new gig

9 April, 2008 (05:20) | Uncategorized | 4 comments

Can you guess what this is for? Once I get it together and finish the project, it’ll show up on Hack-A-Day as part of an upcoming how-to. I made it through my first week over at the Uni. I’m pretty happy with what I’ve seen so far. I think things will definitely stay interesting around [...]

gparted: re-arrange your drive like it’s furniture

24 March, 2008 (15:57) | Uncategorized |

I’ve had to use windows more lately due to certain project requirements. When I last set up my machine, ubuntu was seeing more use, so I didn’t give windows very much disk space. Now it’s time to install a few more programs, and I’m down to my last gig on my windows partition. What to [...]
